Dolly Parton – Super Hits (CD)
Dolly Parton – Super Hits (CD)
Dolly Parton's songwriting genius is too often eclipsed by her larger-than-life persona, but collections like this one cut straight to the craft. She wrote "I Will Always Love You" as a farewell to mentor Porter Wagoner, long before Whitney Houston turned it into a global phenomenon, and that kind of story runs through everything she touches. This is a fine entry point for anyone still sleeping on one of country music's most formidable originals.
